Welcome to the official web site of the DOS Historical Preservation Society. Our web site is still in the early stages of construction. A mission statement is currently being drafted and will be posted soon.
The DOS Historical Preservation Society exists to preserve the rich legacy of software for the DOS operating system. We accept donations of original copies of DOS software for permanent archival. Any software that can be legally distributed will be made available for download. Latest news:
Purchased 8 games from the GCWCC charity campaign at work:
The first batch of 13 operating systems and 61 games have been cataloged and are now listed on the Exhibits page. There is much more to come! At the moment, the Exhibits section is just a "have list" of software in the archive. Bit-perfect images are being created for every disk in the collection, and BIN/CUE images are being created for every CD-ROM. For copyright reasons, I can't legally share them with the world, or even prove that I've created the disk images for that matter. Instead, I'll share what I can: I'm going to scan the boxes and manual covers, which I should be able to post under fair use provisions in copyright law. A scanner is being purchased, and donations to cover this expense would be greatly appreciated.
Purchased 6 games from the Salvation Army Thrift Store:
The DOS Historical Preservation Society has finally gotten the necessary equipment to begin creating raw disk images for permanent archival, thanks to the purchase of a CatWeasel MK 4. Details to follow. |
